European Cities working together
Ten European cities inspire each other to create innovative strategies that revitalize the retail sector in medium-sized cities.

The cities participating in the RetaiLink network (a project in the URBACT programme) will develop Integrated Action Plans to enhance the competitiveness of small and/or independent retail businesses, considering them a key economic driver.

The project’s scope of work includes areas such as regulation, employment, urban planning, managing public spaces, mobility, cultural and creative industries and citizens participation. Our multi-stakeholder approach brings together public sector, private sector, retailers and major commercial operators, consumers or cultural and creative industries.

“Retail in midsize cities can flourish with the right approach” Karel Loohuis

Mayor of Hoogeveen

ICRE 2018 - Making an impact across Europe

On April 5 2018, Hoogeveen (The Netherlands) will host ICRE2018, an attractive and inspiring European congress on how to boost medium-sized inner cities and retail areas. The lessons learned and best practices of RetaiLink will be presented, experts will conclude the do’s and don’ts of modern public private cooperation.

The event is focussed on the needs of entrepreneurs, administrators, investors and other stakeholders in midsize cities. The congress is a cooperation of the municipality of Hoogeveen, the European programme URBACT, the province of Drenthe and Platform 31.

During this period Hoogeveen will be the retail capital of Europe. A side festive programme in the city will entertain congress guests and the general public.
